Shamrocks
Oh No! I thought I would add a touch of the Gaelic to this timely list of shamrocks to celebrate St. Patrick's and general good luck. But when I checked the spelling I was so surprised to learn that these two words in this phrase, however cute they sound are actually mild oaths. And most Irish object to them!
Whoa! Who knew? Not I. But anyway the tatting patterns are all rated G and will give you lots of fun. Enjoy.

The late Terry McGuffin shared this shamrock with us years ago. It remains one of my all-time favorite tatting patterns. This Peek-a-boo Shamrock Ornament may be tatted in size 12 Perle or other 45-60 thread. Use a clear plastic ornament that comes in 2 halves or teardrop ornament. A small crystal bead for center of shamrock will really sparkle.

I guess this pattern will stay with me forever. Because of its a back story. I learned the pattern from an elderly lady I met in a laundromat while waiting for the clothes to dry. I had just learned to tat and was working away when she pulled out her shuttle and asked if I know how to make a shamrock green? I didn't but was intrigued. She said 9, 11, 13 make shamrock green. She taught me the pattern then. Later I asked her what book it was in. She laughed and said she had learned it from "Priscilla." I was too new then to know she meant the "Modern Priscilla" from the early 20th century magazines and newspapers.
